Colonoscopy Procedure

Keep Your Body Healthy By Keeping Your Colon Healthy

You might not realize it, but keeping your colon in good shape is one of the best things that you can do for your body. With a colon cancer screening, you can see whether or not your colon is still flushing waste and toxins from your body. If you are experiencing complications with your colon, be sure to turn to a Las Vegas miVIP surgeon to handle your colonoscopy procedure.

If you have a family history of colorectal cancer, or if you are over the age of 50, then you will most definitely want to get checked for colon cancer through a colonoscopy. During the colonoscopy, we will also check your large intestines for any growths that might be a sign of cancer.

How the Surgery Is Performed

During this specific procedure, a miVIP surgeon will check for ulcers, tumors, polyps, bleeding and inflammation in your colon and rectum. The examination will be carried out with a camera attached to a small tube, a device known as a colonoscope. More specifically, the colonoscopy procedure includes:

  • Preparation – A majority of our patients find that preparing for the screening is more unpleasant than the actual screening. You will be given either stool softeners or laxatives to make sure that your colon is empty. Since preparation for your screening for colon cancer will cause frequent trips to the bathroom, you will probably want to prepare in the comfort of your own home. There is also a special liquid diet that’s part of the preparation.
  • Procedure – Before the procedure at your doctor’s office, you will be given anesthesia and IV fluids. You will be asleep while we collect tissue samples and take care of any growths that we might find. In most cases, the colonoscopy procedure will last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

The miVIP Difference

What sets miVIP surgeons apart from all other surgeons is that ours are leading professionals in their chosen medical field—sometimes even teaching other physicians procedures. Not only that, but each of our surgeons will do everything they can to make you as comfortable as possible during your screening for colon cancer.

What to Expect After the Procedure

Once you have made a full recovery from your screening, you will be free to return home. It will not take you very long to be cleared since the colonoscopy procedure is minimally invasive and does not involve any sutures or cutting.

Cost of the Procedure

The cost of your procedure will depend mainly on your health insurance. A colonoscopy is typically considered a preventative screening and is fully covered by The Affordable Care Act. Still, you may incur additional expenses. Be sure to contact your insurance provider to see what out-of-pocket costs you might have to take care of until your deductible is met. Our patient advocates can also help you with benefits pre-authorization or work out a payment plan to fit your budget.
