da Vinci Surgical System

Helping You to Understand the Surgical Process

Our passionate team of professionals at miVIP is dedicated to the care and comfort of our valued patients. That is why we are proud to offer the latest technology in all of our surgical clinics, minimizing your down-time and maximizing your results. The innovative da Vinci Surgical System is one example of our sophisticated surgical tools.

At miVIP Surgical Centers our skilled surgeons have received extensive training on the operation of the da Vinci Surgical System. This minimally invasive technology allows us to offer a greater variety of robotic-assisted procedure options to our patients. It also ensures that our patients will feel confident about the outcome of their surgical procedure.

What is da Vinci technology?

The da Vinci Surgical System is the leader in minimally-invasive robotic devices. Da Vinci robotics allows the surgeon to operate under optimal conditions, including enhanced dexterity, comfort and visualization. The equipment consists of interactive robotic arms which work to hold various tools for the surgeon. Robotic-assisted procedure technology helps to minimize tremors and range of motion limitations that a human hand will exhibit, reducing the risk of human error. It is also minimally invasive, leading to several benefits for both the patient and surgeon. With a high-definition, magnified image of the patient’s surgical site, the surgeon is able to see the site clearly, optimizing performance.

How does the da Vinci Surgical System work?

Years ago, surgeries were performed by making a large incision at the surgical site and then suturing up the wound after the procedure was completed. Not only did this lead to a high risk of infection, but it also led to a painful and lengthy recovery. The da Vinci system requires small incisions, just large enough for the surgeon’s miniature instruments. A sophisticated, three-dimensional camera is also inserted, giving the surgeon a clear, unobstructed view of the site. The surgeons are then able to manipulate the tiny pieces of equipment with their hands, as their larger hand movements are transformed into precise micro-movements.

What types of robotic-assisted procedures are available?

Da Vinci surgical technology is minimally invasive and carries a low risk for creating adverse reactions. That is why most patients will be named as good candidates for surgical procedures using the technology. Our surgical team offers other minimally invasive non-robotic options for our patients as well. The surgeon will evaluate each patient and determine the best options for their specific case. Your robotic-assisted procedure option may include one of the following:

  • Bariatric Procedures: Sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, gastric band and lap band.
  • Gynecological Procedures: Myomectomy, hysterectomy and endometriosis resection.
  • General Procedures: Heller myotomies, cholecystectomies and pancreatectomies.
  • Thoracic Procedures: Sweaty palm surgery, wedge resections, robotic lymph node surgery, lobectomy and robotic thymectomy.
  • Urological Procedures: Radical prostatectomy.

How will the da Vinci Surgical System benefit me?

Due to the remarkable enhancements that da Vinci technology brings to our clinics, patients can feel secure during their surgical robotic-assisted procedure. Some of the enhancements include:

  • Fluorescence Imaging, which illuminates all areas and vasculatures of the surgical site. This maximizes the surgeon’s visibility during the procedure.
  • Single-Port Technology, which allows the surgeon to use a single small incision to gain access to the entire surgical site.
