What is da Vinci technology?

The da Vinci Surgical System is the leader in minimally-invasive robotic devices. Da Vinci robotics allows the surgeon to operate under optimal conditions, including enhanced dexterity, comfort and visualization. The equipment consists of interactive robotic arms which work to hold various tools for the surgeon. Robotic-assisted procedure technology helps to minimize tremors and range of motion limitations that a human hand will exhibit, reducing the risk of human error. It is also minimally invasive, leading to several benefits for both the patient and surgeon. With a high-definition, magnified image of the patient’s surgical site, the surgeon is able to see the site clearly, optimizing performance.

How does the da Vinci Surgical System work?

Years ago, surgeries were performed by making a large incision at the surgical site and then suturing up the wound after the procedure was completed. Not only did this lead to a high risk of infection, but it also led to a painful and lengthy recovery. The da Vinci system requires small incisions, just large enough for the surgeon’s miniature instruments. A sophisticated, three-dimensional camera is also inserted, giving the surgeon a clear, unobstructed view of the site. The surgeons are then able to manipulate the tiny pieces of equipment with their hands, as their larger hand movements are transformed into precise micro-movements.

What types of robotic-assisted procedures are available?

Da Vinci surgical technology is minimally invasive and carries a low risk for creating adverse reactions.
