Ligament Repair

The Fast Track to Recovering From an Injury

Not every injury is as obvious as a broken bone or sprained ankle. A ligament injury can actually go undetected for a while because the symptoms do not always appear immediately. Many people who do damage to one of their ligaments report hearing a pop and feeling sharp pain but are still able to walk. Sound familiar? Then you have probably torn or otherwise damaged a ligament and need joint surgery, which is where our team at miVIP Las Vegas can help.

Our minimally invasive ligament repair can help mend and heal the connective tissues that piece your joints together, especially the ones in the knee that we see damaged most often:

  • Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
  • Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)
  • Lateral collateral ligament (LCL)
  • Medial collateral ligament (MCL)

How Ligament Repair Is Performed

The process all begins with identifying your symptoms, which usually include:

  • Pain and swelling
  • A looseness in the joint
  • Instability in the affected leg

If you have extensive damage, odds are you are a good candidate for minimally invasive ligament repair. Prior to this type of joint surgery, your physician will use either an X-ray or an MRI to diagnose the issue and determine what kind of operation will best resolve it. You will be placed under general anesthesia before the surgeon makes several very small – one-quarter of an inch – incisions and insert a small camera to view the damage.

Our miVIP surgeon will then either use a graft from one of your tendons or a donated one to repair the injured ligament. A guide-wire will actually thread your new ligament into place before the physician closes the incisions with either surgical tape or stitches.

Our Team at miVIP

You can rely on our world-class physicians for your minimally invasive ligament repair. Our surgeons have extensive experience in joint surgery and are all board certified and highly qualified to do the job. Your miVIP doctor will help you get on the road to recovery quickly through skillful, careful surgery.

What to Expect for Your Recovery

Your minimally invasive ligament repair surgery will likely be an outpatient procedure, which means you will be able to go home on the same day of the operation. You may experience some slight pain and even swelling, for which your physician may recommend using ice or prescription medication. You can expect to be on crutches until your physician clears you, but you should be able to return to work within just a few days.

Certain activities like strenuous exercise will be a bit further down the road. Depending on your progress with physical therapy, it may be six months to a year after your joint surgery before you can resume those activities.

Cost of Surgery

Our miVIP offices accept most forms of PPO and POS insurance, and your out of pocket costs will largely depend on your policy. Please call one of our representatives to discuss your policy and payment options.

Other Information

There are several benefits to having a minimally invasive procedure as opposed to traditional surgery, including:

  • Quicker recovery time
  • Less risk of infection
  • Less bleeding

As with any procedure, it is important to monitor your recovery and alert your physician if you notice anything out of the ordinary.
